Solvig Norman has 20 years experience as an instructional designer, project manager, and international consultant on various open learning based projects ranging from elementary to high school, adult basic education, workplace training, and post-secondary. Majority of her expertise involves working with subject matter experts, writers, and other project team members to implement sound instructional design principles.
Her work has taken her to some interesting places in the world such as China, Mexico, Zimbabwe, the Caribbean, and South East Asia, where she worked with instructors, writers, and media specialists providing training in the area of instructional design and media development. From 2002 to 2004 Solvig led a national initiative for the federal government where she represented Canada on an international consortium dealing with technical e-learning standards (IMS Global Learning Consortium).
Solvig has been presenting papers since 1992 on the use of technology at various educational conferences in Canada and internationally (e.g., Australia, USA, England, Germany). She was a board member of the Canadian Association for Distance Education from 2004 to 2007 (which merged to form a new entity: Canadian Network of Innovation in Education).
Solvig completed her Master of Educational Technology from Concordia University in Montreal (1991). She worked at the Open Learning Agency here in BC for 13 years as an instructional designer and project manager. Since 2003, she has been working at Open School BC, which is part of the British Columbia provincial government, overseeing content development for K-12 projects and public sector based projects. Solvig has been teaching online at Royal Roads University for about 9 years.
